Affordable in All the Right Places! Springfield Armory Echelon Alpha 9mm
Springfield Armory has created a pretty large lineup of pistol offerings via their Echelon platform. With a chassis design that allows for switching between different slide and frame combinations, the sky is the limit as far as what configuration you can create for yourself. The only thing that might have been missing from the Echelon series is an offering with a slightly sharper price-point, and now even that is available. With Springfield unveiling the Echelon Alpha, you now have the same quality pistol with an even better MSRP.

All of the new Echelon Alpha handguns are being introduced in the compact version of a 4.0C (compact 4″ barrel). The differences from an Alpha to a standard Echelon are the recontoured slide, shipping with only one stainless steel magazine, and utilizing white dot sights versus an enhanced night sight set (U-Notch rear and a tritium front sight with luminescent ring). These little changes were enough to drop the price from over $700 ($710 for standard Echelons) to $599 (the new Echelon Alphas). At the time of this announcement, there are 3 introductory models to choose from:
- Echelon
Alpha 4.0C Handgun, CA Compliant – MSRP $649 - Echelon
Alpha 4.0C Handgun – MSRP $599 - Echelon
Alpha 4.0C Handgun, Low Capacity – MSRP $599

A Word from Springfield Armory on the NEW Echelon Alpha
“With an MSRP of $599, the new Echelon
Alpha 4.0C 9mm offers a more accessible entry point into the modular Echelon ecosystem. Built around the robust Central Operating Group
, a serialized stainless steel chassis, it delivers a rock-solid foundation for a modern defensive handgun. The Variable Interface System
enables direct-mount capability for today’s most popular optics, while purpose-driven ergonomics deliver performance where it counts. The Echelon Alpha is ready to perform today and evolve with you over time.”

Final Thoughts
The Echelon as a family of pistols has been quite popular ever since its introduction to the market several years ago. To see that Springfield is making it even more affordable for shooters who might be on a tight budget is pretty thoughtful and a nice addition to the lineup as a whole.
