AllOutdoor Review: SaltStick FastChews – Fast Acting Hydration Tablets
No matter what my day demands of me, something that is at the forefront of my mind in recent years is my hydration. So much of what we eat and consume dehydrates us – coffee, energy drinks, beef jerky, salty fast food/convenience food, etc – that we need to be mindful that we are hydrating. Whether I am hiking in the Superior National Forest, through my cattle pasture, or to the mailbox in my driveway, I don’t want to have my toes curl and begin cramping in any of those situations. So, in this AllOutdoor Review, we are going to take a look at some of the SaltStick FastChews in their Tart Orange and Mixed Berry flavors for fast-acting hydration to see how they perform during everyday use. Let’s dive in!

What are SaltStick FastChews?
For starters, we need to answer the question of what are SaltStick FastChews? SaltStick FastChews are touted as revolutionizing hydration with a faster, more convenient way to replenish electrolytes. Their irresistible, chewable electrolyte tablets are clinically proven to start working in 45 seconds – no mixing and no waiting. Just chew.
SUGGESTED USE: Chew 2 tablets for every 30 minutes of exercise. For maximum effect, chew completely before swallowing. Drink water as needed.
You have the option of being able to purchase these in three different quantities/sizes with varying MSRPs that are listed below for each product:
- 60 Count Tablets – $19.99
- 120 Count Tablets – $34.99
- 10 Count (Box of 12 Packets) – $42.00
As we alluded to, electrolytes can be the difference between finishing your day or hunt as a champ, or struggling with fatigue, cramping, and nausea. SaltStick aims to mirror the electrolyte breakdown in sweat more closely than any other product. Better than sports drinks or any individual food you could eat. To make these as palatable as possible, they other them in 10 unique flavors:
- Lemon Lime
- Tart Orange
- Mixed Berry
- Green Apple
- Pink Lemonade
- Tropical Mango
- Peach
- Watermelon
- Coconut Pineapple
- Tropical Twist + Caffeine
- Citrus Burst + Caffeine

SaltStick FastChews Tart Orange
The first flavor that we are going to take a look at is Tart Orange. Orange is one of my go-to flavors whenever it comes to drinks, medicine, or anything related to that sort of thing. So, this was my baseline flavor when looking at these products from SaltStick FastChews. In regards to ingredients, there weren’t many surprises if you have been reading nutrition and ingredient labels for awhile. All of those ingredients for the Tart Orange flavor are as follows:
- Dextrose
- Citric Acid
- Stearic Acid
- Natural Orange Flavor
- Malic Acid
- Magnesium Stearate
- Reb A (Stevia Leaf Extract)
- Beta Carotene (Natural Vegetable Color)

Taste & Performance
So, how did the SaltStick FastChews in their Tart Orange flavor taste and perform?… I thought the Tart Orange was a great introductory or baseline flavor. Whether someone likes fruit flavors or not, this is a very mild taste – nothing that is going to dominate your tastebuds or turn you off from the product.
The FastChews had the same consistency and texture as a Sweet Tart candy, but with less sugar. Whether you washed it down with a drink of water, or simply chewed on them dry, you could easily eat and swallow them. They weren’t overly chalky or disintegrated too easily.
I used these a lot while going to the gym and hitting CrossFit workouts. So, during strenuous activity like that I never felt dehydrated, crampy, or needing to chug inordinate amounts of water. The Tart Orange FastChews did their job.

SaltStick FastChews Mixed Berry
Next, we have the SaltStick FastChews Mixed Berry flavor. This flavor was more pleasant, sweet, and dare I say nostalgic. I found this to be more of a “treat” feeling when I would take them. A good mixed berry flavor as the name implies, and again, it wasn’t overpowering or so weak that you couldn’t identify the taste. It landed pleasantly in the middle. All of those ingredients for the Mixed Berry flavor are as follows:
- Dextrose
- Citric Acid
- Natural Raspberry & Mixed Berry Flavors
- Stearic Acid
- Magnesium Stearate Beet Powder (Natural Vegetable Color)
- Reb A (Stevia Leaf Extract)

Taste & Performance
So, how did the SaltStick FastChews in their Mixed Berry flavor taste and perform?… I thought the Mixed Berry was definitely the superior flavor of the two we tested. If you needed to motivate your kids or even an unwilling friend to focus on their hydration needs more, this is likely the flavor I would be suggesting to them to try.
The Mixed Berry was extremely similar in texture, its chew-ability, and ability to digest as the aforementioned Tart Orange flavor. Whether I had these in the cup holder of my truck on long days where I was drinking coffee and running errands, or bringing them to the gym for workouts, the result was always the same: I felt hydrated and could perform at a high level for whatever my day demanded, and I loved that!

Final Thoughts
So, what are my final thoughts on the SaltStick FastChews in their Tart Orange and Mixed Berry flavors?… Overall, I walked away pleasantly surprised and more than satisfied with the product. It is not chalky like most mix-in powder products, the flavors are good, and you can feel that it is working quickly. There is no 2-hour waiting period for the product to kick-in or work. So, at the modest price of $19.99, I would definitely recommend these to anyone who would like to try them.
In closing, I want to say thank you to SaltStick for allowing AllOutdoor and myself the opportunity to try out their SaltStick FastChews in their Tart Orange and Mixed Berry flavors.
