AllOutdoor Review: Sea-Doo 2026 FishPro Trophy 170 – Keep or Cut Bait?

By Adam Scepaniak

When it comes to freshwater fishing most people think of one of two extremes: either you’re standing on a riverbank, or you think you need a giant boat. What if we told you that there is a sweet spot or middle ground? You can fit and sneak into more places while fishing on the water if you had a paddleboat, canoe, or even a jet-ski (personal watercraft). Can’t fit under that low-hanging bridge to get to that backwater area? A channel to shallow or narrow for your big boat? Personal watercrafts are thought of as only recreational toys, but they have come a long ways over the years. In fact, they have a lot more tech and accoutrements than you think. So, today we are going to take a look at the Sea-Doo 2026 FishPro Trophy 170 personal watercraft to see how it performs while fishing in Minnesota: the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Let’s dive in!

Standout Features

This sport fishing watercraft has some impressive specs, but what impressed me the most wasn’t the powerful engine or the expansive touchscreen; rather, the fact that this thing has a bigger gas tank than my truck! Some of the other more impressive features for the 2026 FishPro Trophy 170 personal watercraft are listed below as presented by Sea-Doo:

  • Garmin 9″ GPS & Fish Finder: Know What’s Below – There’s a whole world underwater. And with our state-of-the-art 9” touchscreen navigation, charting, and fish finder system using an in-hull transducer with mid-CHIRP sonar, it’s yours to see.

  • ST3 Hull: Stable and Predictable – The benchmark for rough water handling, stability, and offshore performance. The ST3 platform offers easy boarding, plenty of space to move about on deck and superior confidence.
  • Tournament-Level Fishing: Features Fit for Avid and Competitive Anglers – An anchoring system, ample storage, an advanced battery system for your electronics and a seat that converts into a pedestal for sight-fishing gives hardcore fishers what they need to reel in the big one.
  • LinQ Fishing Cooler & Livewell: Keep them Swimming – Convert your 51L/13.5 gal. LinQ Fishing Cooler into a livewell to safely store your lure. Its integrated pump feeds fresh water into the reservoir so your bait stays alive until you’re ready to cast.

What’s in the Box?

One of the most common and recurring questions I receive reviewing firearms and their related products is, “what’s in the box?” Meaning, what do you all get with your purchase. This is important because what you do and do not get will dictate what type of accessories you need to additionally buy depending on what you want your end-product to look like. All this being said, this is everything that you will receive:

Included in the Box:

What’s the Upsell? What’s the 30-Second Elevator Pitch?

So, what’s the upsell? What’s the metaphorical and literal 30-second elevator pitch? For the Sea-Doo 2026 FishPro Trophy 170 personal watercraft, you’re looking at several prominent traits that might tip the scale in favor of Sea-Doo as opposed to a competing manufacturer at a similar price-point.

  • Keep them Swimming: LinQ Cooler with Livewell – Turn the 51L/13.5 gal. LinQ Fishing Cooler into a livewell in seconds. An integrated pump constantly feeds fresh water into the reservoir keeping your catch or your bait alive all day.
  • Bird’s Eye View: Modular Swivel Seat – Rear portion of the seat transforms into a pedestal seat ideal for sight fishing. Installs in seconds for a game-changing experience. Both the pedestal and backrest stow cleverly away when not in use.
  • Fishing features: 5 Fishing rod holders, fish finder and GPS, swivel seat, quick connect livewell, bench seat, trolling mode, gunwale footrests and anchoring system
  • The ultimate combination of power and fuel efficiency
  • Industry leading stability and control
  • Advanced battery system

Experience on the Water – Sea-Doo 2026 FishPro Trophy 170

So, how did the Sea-Doo 2026 FishPro Trophy 170 personal watercraft perform out on the freshwater lakes and streams of Minnesota?… When I told several family members that I would be reviewing a personal watercraft for fishing, and not just recreation, it caught some raised eyebrows. Not everyone knows that personal watercrafts are now hand-tailored for fishing, but I authentically believe it is pretty rad that we have come this far.

Driving/Riding Experience

I don’t have a ton of experience with personal watercrafts, let alone ones personalized for fishing. So, learning how this model handles, feels, and moves was all new to me. The maneuverability of the Sea-Doo 2026 FishPro Trophy 170 is quite good for its size. As long as you bear in mind that you are attempting to turn on a dime on a fluid material (quite literally water), and it’s not the same responsiveness of say a Can-Am pivoting on hard dirt.

The Sea-Doo 2026 FishPro Trophy 170 had a very smooth ride – for the driving as well as passengers – and had incredibly comfortable seating for such a small watercraft relative to the large boats we’re all used to.

Controls/Touchscreens

While attempting to use all of the functions of the FishPro Trophy 170, I felt like I was in the cockpit of a technological wonder. I have a fairly new and techy pickup truck, but this personal watercraft had even more technology imbued into it.

The controls were intuitive to start and run this personal watercraft, and I was surprised to learn it even had Reverse. While cycling through touchscreen options, it was easy to scan through different features, presets, and to be able to assess the condition of the watercraft (does it need more gas, what time it is relative to dusk, etc). Also, being that this watercraft was outfitted with a Garmin fish finder and GPS made it ready to roll! I didn’t feel like I needed to go out and purchase anything else to make this fishing jet-ski complete.

LinQ Cooler with Livewell

The LinQ cooler and livewell I found to be super handy whether you use it simply for storage (extra life jackets, personal items, snacks) or to “flip” it in a matter of seconds into a functioning livewell to keep your catch alive until it’s dinner time. I never thought I would like an on-board livewell on a personal watercraft as much as I did.

Rodholders

Simplistic in their design and appearance, the handful of rodholders that are on the Sea-Doo 2026 FishPro Trophy 170 personal watercraft worked incredibly well. If I was floating stationary and tying new lures onto a fishing rod – simply rocking in the motion of the ocean – the extra fishing rods were always secure. Even when jettisoning across a lake at 40+ MPH, my fishing rods never came loose in their rod holders.

Speed

Something that is worth discussing, but is not heavily-marketed on the Sea-Doo 2026 FishPro Trophy 170 personal watercraft is it speed and acceleration. If you need to fly quickly to your secret fishing spot, this watercraft can haul at a pretty good clip – in excess of 50+ MPH. I wouldn’t recommend driving that fast constantly (and please wear a life jacket as well as be safe), but the ability to accelerate quickly is a safety feature because you could swiftly evade someone else on a watercraft who isn’t paying attention.

Safety

Speaking of safety, Sea-Doo does a great job of not only having good handling, acceleration, speed, and an intuitive design, but they do “hide” a lot of safety elements as well. If you pop the hood under the steering console, you can find a sealed First Aid Kit as well as a fire extinguisher.

Intangibles

Some other random facets of this personal watercraft that I liked was the tacky or grippy surface of the LinQ cooler and livewell. It made for a great working surface to change lures on my fishing rods or to even temporarily set down my cellphone between lake selfies.

I also liked how easily accessible the engine is if you were to purchase one and needed to maintain it. You can simply pop off the seat (no need for tools) and you can see and access everything you need.

Also, if you want to buy additional accessories for the Sea-Doo 2026 FishPro Trophy 170 personal watercraft, like an independent swivel seat, you can easily integrate that to the rear of the watercraft. Then, you could be elevated a bit higher to be fishing off of the rear of the watercraft.

Final Thoughts

So, what are my final thoughts on the Sea-Doo 2026 FishPro Trophy 170 personal watercraft?… Overall, I was impressed by how capable and useful a personal watercraft can be for fishing. It makes a lot of sense to me that a personal watercraft might come across as expensive if you already are making payments on a large boat. But, if you opted to only purchase a personal watercraft like this one, it could be a “Swiss Army knife” for you: recreational watercraft, fishing vessel, and the ability to tow friends and family who want to go tubing, skiing, kneeboarding, etc. The asking price of ~$22,000 I view as very fair if you see it through the lens as an investment: for fishing, recreation, and otherwise.

In closing, I want to say thank you to Sea-Doo for allowing AllOutdoor and myself the opportunity to try out their new Sea-Doo 2026 FishPro Trophy 170 personal watercraft. That is greatly appreciated. Also, we would like to know what all of you guys and gals think?
