Buck 110 & 112 Crossbar Elite: MagnaCut Meets a Crossbar Lock
Few folders are as instantly identifiable as the Buck 110 Folding Hunter, a design that has shaped what generations of buyers expect a Buck folder to look and feel like. For 2026, Buck rebuilt it and its slightly smaller sibling, the 112 Ranger, into the Crossbar Elite series, keeping the silhouette while swapping out the mechanism and materials that have defined the platform for generations.
What Actually Changes
The traditional 110 is a lockback that takes two hands to open and a deliberate press of the spine lock to close. The Buck 110 Crossbar Elite replaces that with a one-handed, ambidextrous crossbar lock (KnifeNews compares it to an Axis-style lock), paired with dual thumbstuds. That means you can open and close the knife one-handed from either side. The lock sits under aluminum bolsters rather than the classic brass.
The blade steel is the other headline. Both the 110 and 112 Crossbar Elite run CPM MagnaCut, finished with Buck’s proprietary BOS Heat Treatment. KnifeNews notes the heat treat is a custom Paul Bos treatment. MagnaCut is already a high-performing recipe balancing edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance, which makes it a sensible pick for a hunting folder that sees blood, moisture, and hard use.
Both keep the iconic clip-point profile that makes a 110 recognizable at a glance. A sharpening choil is included on each.
Materials and Build
Buck kept the visual heritage intact, from the double bolsters to the Macassar ebony inlays, while going lighter. The handles are Cerakoted aluminum. KnifeNews reports the two folders go together with screws instead of pins, so owners can disassemble and service them, and the construction shaves weight: the larger 110 Crossbar Elite comes in at 3.5 oz, while the 112 Crossbar Elite weighs 3.1 oz.
Both models carry a reversible, removable deep-carry pocket clip, so the knife can ride on either side and sit low in the pocket. That’s a departure from the sheath-carried original and squarely aimed at everyday carry as much as the hunting pack.
Buck describes the Crossbar Elite as designed to “bridge generations of Buck users—from longtime 110 and 112 owners to today’s EDC enthusiast.” Every knife is made in Post Falls, Idaho, and backed by Buck’s Forever Warranty.
Availability
The 110 and 112 Crossbar Elite debuted at Blade Show 2026 in Atlanta and launched September 15, 2026, through Buck Knives and participating Authorized Buck Knives Retailers. Buck did not list pricing in the announcement.
For hunters who already trust the 110, this is the familiar knife with modern one-hand operation and a better steel. Whether the added mechanism and materials justify stepping away from the classic lockback comes down to how much you value one-handed use and deep-carry pocket clip flexibility in the field.
