Trijicon has added a Coyote Brown anodized finish to the RMR HD, and the reason is clear: people kept asking for it. The duty-grade red dot is now offered in brown alongside the original black, with both reticle options.

The firearms industry already has more names for brown than most paint shops, and Coyote Brown sits somewhere between FDE and tan. On a tan or coyote-coloured slide, it should blend in nicely, and on a black pistol it adds a bit of two-tone contrast. Either way, it is the same optic underneath.
That optic is the RMR HD, which takes the original RMR shape and footprint and adds what duty users asked for. The window is larger, with tempered glass, and you can switch between a 55 MOA segmented circle with a centre dot or the dot on its own. The centre dot comes in 1.0 MOA or 3.25 MOA versions.
The feature I find most useful is the forward-looking light sensor. Most auto-brightness optics read the light where you are standing. The RMR HD reads the light at the target, so walking from a dark room towards a lit doorway, or hitting something with a weapon light, does not leave you with a dot that is too dim or blooming out. There are also nine manual brightness settings, three night vision settings and one super-bright setting, with larger buttons that work with gloves on. A lock-out mode secures the auto-brightness setting for carry, and you can choose between normal, high and low auto response.
The battery is a CR2032 loaded from the top, so you change it without removing the optic or checking zero again. I think this kind of feature is a must on any optic.
Battery life is over three years of continuous use at setting five, dot only. Adjustment is 1 MOA per click with 135 MOA of total travel, and the housing is forged 7075-T6 aluminium in Trijicon's patented shape that directs impacts away from the lens. It fits the standard RMR footprint and most optics-ready duty holsters, so if you already run an RMR, the mounting is solved.
The Coyote Brown versions are RMHD1-C-3200012 with the 1.0 MOA dot and RMHD2-C-3200013 with the 3.25 MOA dot. Trijicon lists the 1.0 MOA version at $1,066 retail.
