Derya Arms Enters the Suppressor Market with the OBone

If you have never shot .22 LR suppressed, you have missed one of the best experiences in shooting. A subsonic rimfire behind a can is genuinely quiet, the whole thing costs very little per round, and new shooters who flinch at a centerfire rifle will happily shoot a suppressed .22 all afternoon. Derya Arms has clearly noticed, and here is their new OBone suppressor in detail.

The OBone is Derya's first suppressor, and the opening product in a rimfire and centerfire line the company intends to expand. It is a .22 LR silencer rated for full-automatic fire in .22 LR and semi-automatic fire in .17 HMR and .22 WMR, designed and manufactured at Derya's Jacksonville, Florida factory, with an MSRP of $199. Dustin Jones, Vice President of Derya Arms, frames the rimfire starting point as deliberate: the can most people will actually shoot, light enough that the host still handles and simple enough to clean on a tailgate.

The OBone weighs 3.99 oz (113 g) and adds 5.25 in (13.3 cm) to the muzzle, with an outside diameter of 1.181 in (30 mm). On a .22 pistol or a lightweight rifle, four ounces should be close to irrelevant.

Inside are eight identical 7075-T6 aluminium baffles stacked in any order in a black-anodized tube. Nothing is numbered and nothing has to be indexed, which matters more on a rimfire can than anywhere else, because a .22 suppressor gets filthy. Lead, carbon and unburnt powder build up fast, and rimfire cans need regular cleaning in a way centrefire cans do not. Derya's answer is a suppressor that comes apart by hand with no proprietary wrench: front cap, tube, baffle stack and mount all separate, so the parts can be soaked and brushed with an aluminium-safe cleaner and put back together without tracking which baffle went where.

The serialised component is a screw-on 4140 steel mount with a black nitride finish, threaded 1/2"-28. Putting the threads in steel while the wear parts stay aluminium is a sensible split on a budget rimfire can. There is no minimum barrel length, so it threads directly onto any 1/2"-28 pistol or rifle, including Derya's own threaded TM22 Feather, Flash, Metal and Lever rifles.

Derya quotes 112 dB in representative .22 LR testing, with the usual caveat that results vary with host, barrel length, ammunition, temperature and metering method. One warning from the manual is worth repeating: lead and carbon can lock the front cap, and the tube and cap should never be clamped in a vice or pliers.

Each OBone ships in a padded Derya handgun case, zippered with twin carry handles and a front pocket, which sells on its own for $29.99, with an English and Spanish owner's manual inside. The suppressor carries Derya's Limited Lifetime Warranty.
