Federal America 250th Limited-Edition Ammo Now Shipping
Federal Ammunition out of Anoka, Minnesota has started shipping their America 250th limited-edition target loads, and the timing makes sense. With the country’s 250th birthday hitting on July 4th of this year, Federal is marking the milestone with five collectible loads across their American Eagle, Top Gun, and Champion product families. The ammunition underneath the patriotic packaging is the same proven Federal recipes shooters already know. The commemorative angle is the box art.
Federal Ammo on AO:
- NEW Federal Custom Shop Ammunition: 8 Rifle and 6 Shotgun Selections
- AllOutdoor Review: Federal Master Class 12GA Sporting Clays Loads
- Federal Unveils their Newest Cartridge – 7mm Backcountry
- Gold Medal Paper FITASC Loads! Federal Ammo for “Across the Pond”
- Federal Top Gun Range Bags, Shell Pouches & Gun Cases: Now Available
Whether you are a collector who keeps things on the shelf or a shooter who buys a box specifically to run it through the range, Federal is betting you will want at least one of these. Here is the full breakdown of what is shipping now and what is still coming:
- 45-70 Govt., 300-grain Jacketed Soft Point (American Eagle) / 20-count / $74.99
- 30-06 Springfield, 150-grain FMJ (American Eagle, designed for M1 Garand) / 20-count / $41.99
- 45 Auto, 230-grain FMJ (American Eagle) / 50-count / $35.99
- 22 LR, 36-grain Copper-Plated Hollow Point (Champion) / 250-count / $21.99
- 12 Gauge, 2¾-inch, 1⅛ oz., No. 8 (Top Gun) / 25-count / $12.99
A quick note on availability: the 12-gauge, 30-06, and 45-70 are out the door now. The 22 LR and 45 Auto are still working their way to shelves and won’t be ready until later this spring. If you are specifically after those two, plan accordingly.

The 30-06 load is worth a call-out because Federal specifically built it for the M1 Garand. That is not just a marketing line, it matters. The Garand’s operating system is sensitive to gas pressure and bullet weight, and running the wrong load through it can bend your op rod. Federal has accounted for that here, which makes this a genuinely practical addition to the lineup if you shoot one.

As for the rest of the loads, there is nothing exotic going on. The 45-70 is a straightforward jacketed soft point, the 45 Auto is a standard 230-grain FMJ target load, the 22 LR is a 36-grain copper-plated hollow point well-suited to plinking and small game, and the 12-gauge is a No. 8 clay target load. These are bread-and-butter rounds dressed up for the occasion.

The collectible packaging angle is legitimately well-executed. Each box features patriotic artwork with the 250th anniversary emblem, and Federal has made sure the designs differ across the product lines so you are not just getting the same label slapped on different boxes. Whether that is enough to make you keep an empty box around is a personal call, but it is a nicer-looking shelf piece than most range ammo.

Pricing is reasonable across the board for what you are getting. The 22 LR at $21.99 for 250 rounds is solid, the 12-gauge at $12.99 for 25 shells is competitive for a target load, and the 45 Auto at $35.99 for 50 rounds is right where American Eagle handgun ammo typically lands. The 30-06 M1 Safe ammo at $41.99 for 20 and the 45-70 at $74.99 for 20 are both on the higher end but not out of line for those calibers, especially with Federal components throughout.

These loads are available through the usual Federal retail channels. If your local dealer does not have them yet, they should be rolling in as the summer approaches. Federal has more information available at federalpremium.com.
So the question is simple enough: is there a load in that lineup that is going to find its way into your range bag this summer, or is this the kind of thing you would pick up just to have the box? Let us know in the comments below. We always appreciate the feedback.
