Glock Gen 6 Revealed: Everything You Need to Know About the New Generation

After years of anticipation, GLOCK officially revealed the 6th Generation of GLOCK pistols in December 2025, with pistols hitting dealer shelves on January 20th, 2026. The Gen6 lineup launches with the G17, G19, and G45 — all chambered in 9mm Luger — and brings a host of ergonomic and mechanical improvements that represent the most significant update since the Gen5 release.

What's New in the Gen6

The Gen6 is built around a few key pillars: enhanced ergonomics, a standard optics-ready system, and a flat-faced trigger. Here's a breakdown of what's changed.

New Frame Ergonomics

The Gen6 frame features a redesigned grip with a palm swell, extended thumb rest, and enlarged beavertail. The undercut trigger guard gives shooters a higher grip, improving control and reducing muzzle flip. GLOCK also developed a new RTF6 (Rough Textured Frame) texture that covers more of the pistol — including the thumb rest area — for a more secure grip in all conditions.

Flat-Faced Trigger

The Gen6 introduces a factory flat-faced trigger with a shorter reset and crisper break compared to the Gen5. The redesigned trigger geometry provides a more defined wall and cleaner break, with a factory trigger pull averaging around 4.5–5 lbs. This approaches the quality of many aftermarket trigger upgrades right out of the box.

Gen6 Optic-Ready System (Standard on All Models)

Perhaps the most significant change is that every Gen6 pistol ships optics-ready as standard. The new Gen6 optic-ready system features an improved mounting plate system compatible with most major pistol red dot sights. The optic mounting surface sits lower on the slide for better co-witnessing with iron sights, and the mounting area is reinforced to prevent cracking issues seen in earlier MOS models.

Enhanced Slide Serrations

Front and rear serrations are now standard on all Gen6 models, with deeper, more aggressive cuts for improved slide manipulation. Directional angled serrations provide better grip during racking, and a larger serrated surface area accommodates various grip techniques.

Ambidextrous Controls

The Gen6 features a truly reversible magazine release and ambidextrous slide stop levers with improved ergonomics. Field stripping can be accomplished from either side, making the pistol more accessible for left-handed shooters.

Refined Barrel and Recoil System

The Gen6 builds on the Gen5's Glock Marksman Barrel with tighter tolerances and improved polygonal rifling for enhanced accuracy. An optimized recoil spring assembly reduces felt recoil and muzzle flip. Note: Gen6 barrels use new chamfering and geometry that makes them incompatible with previous generations.

Gen6 Model Lineup

At launch, the Gen6 includes three 9mm models:

- Glock 17 Gen6 — Full-size, 17-round capacity, 7.44-inch overall length, 4.49-inch barrel

- Glock 19 Gen6 — Compact, 15-round capacity, popular for everyday carry

- Glock 45 Gen6 — Compact slide with full-size frame, 17-round capacity

Pricing is expected to mirror the Gen5 lineup.
