WALDORF, MD — A private security guard shot and killed a man early Saturday after the man pulled a knife during a fight inside a Waldorf bar and stabbed another man, according to investigators. The Charles County Sheriff’s Office says detectives are investigating the death as a homicide.
Deputies were called to The Cut Bar & Restaurant on Business Park Court around 1:46 a.m. for a report of a stabbing and a shooting, as reported by FOX 5 DC and WJLA. Investigators said a confrontation between two men escalated when one of them pulled out a knife and threatened the other.
The security guard working at the bar stepped in. He tried to take control of the man’s hand and the knife. It did not stop the attack. The man stabbed the other man once in the abdomen.
Investigators said the guard fired as the man appeared to attempt another stabbing. One round struck him in the chest.
The man walked outside and collapsed in the parking lot. Officers found him still holding the knife. Officers and emergency medical personnel gave aid, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as William Pierre Strong, 41, of Waldorf.
The man who was stabbed was treated for injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening and is expected to recover. Authorities have not released his name or the guard’s.

The guard did not reach for his gun first. He went hands-on and tried to control the weapon, and the blade still went in. A knife at arm’s length moves faster than most people can stop with their hands. That is the mindset piece here. If you close distance on a knife, the next strike can come before you have a better option.
Detectives plan to present the case to the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office for review, and prosecutors will make the final call. No charging decision has been announced. The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information to contact Detective Logsdon at 301-609-6436.
