New Dove-Busting Loads From Apex Ammunition

The summer is flying by, and before you know it, it’s going to be September and that means it’s dove season in a lot of states. And just before that hunting season arrives, we have new options from Apex Ammunitions; their new Dove Stratified Loads are available with either lead or steel pellets.

The Stratified series of shotshells has pellets of different sizes in the same cartridge, instead of the traditional method of loading the shell with a single pellet size. Why do this? Apex Ammunition says it’s a way to offer more hitting power at longer range while also delivering a tighter pattern that puts more pellets on target at all distances, delivering the ideal all-round performance that hunters want while wingshooting.

In the case of the new L3 high-antimony lead shot rounds, the shooters will get a harder, rounder pellet whether you get a 12-gauge or 20-gauge load, either will be loaded with a combination of #7 and #8 pellets. You can buy a 3-inch 20 gauge load or 2.75-inch 12 gauge load; there are two different 20 gauge loads, both in 2.75-inch length.

The S3 steel pellet loads come with #6 and #7 pellets, and there is only one 2.75-inch 12 gauge load and one 2.75-inch 20 gauge load.

Jason Lonsberry, the president and CEO of Apex Ammunition, says the new loads were developed because hunters wanted their high-performance ammo available for smaller birds:
