PENN’s NEW Jumbo Baitcaster – Fathom 500 Low Profile Reel

PENN is here with the newest addition to their Fathom line of low-profile reels, with the new Fathom 500 jumbo-sized baitcaster. Continuing their goal of making fishing gear with uncompromising power and control, this new Fathom reel packs precision-engineering and rugged gearing into a compact package design to hold up to the toughest saltwater fish. The Fathom 500 features a full-metal body and crank side plate, reducing torque and flex on the reel while fighting fish. That way, the reel maintains perfect gear alignment under the heavy load and doesn’t skip a beat. The heart of the reel is a stainless steel main gear and bearing-supported pinion, for a powerful and efficient drivetrain for the reel. The drag is the reliable and smooth HT-100 carbon fiber system that stays consistent even during long fights with high drag pressures. For added longevity, the level-wind system is Titanium Nickel-coated for added corrosion resistance and superior line management on the spool. Additionally, the drag is synchronised to the level wind system to keep the line lay even on the spool, even under heavy drag pressure during a long fight.

The PENN Fathom 500 Low Profile Reel will be available in two gear ratios, 4.5:1 & 6.7:1, with an MSRP of $499.95. The reels are slated for release in March 2026.
