Photo Of The Day, and we go full Special Forces. The story takes us underground, where the 22nd Assault Company of Belgium’s 3 Para transformed Brussels–Schuman metro station into a Close Quarters Battle training environment. Far removed from open terrain, this setting emphasizes confined spaces, limited sightlines, constant civilian infrastructure, and the need for rapid decision-making under pressure.

The images capture Belgian paratroopers conducting realistic urban drills among ticket halls, platforms, and even beside vending machines, areas that mirror the complexity of real-world operations. Soldiers are seen patrolling tight corridors, maintaining security in transit spaces, and performing Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC), reinforcing that medical response is as critical as marksmanship in modern combat.

Training in an active-style metro environment forces units to manage angles, noise, vertical threats, and movement discipline while coordinating as small teams.

CQB scenarios like these highlight the evolving demands placed on airborne and light infantry forces operating in densely populated urban centers, when the local Police is by no means enough. By rehearsing below street level, 3 Para is trying to demonstrate that readiness is not limited to traditional battlefields, but extends to the everyday infrastructure where speed, control, and coordination can make a huge difference.
