Pulsar has released the Telos LRF XT50, positioned as the new flagship model in its upgradeable Telos series of thermal imaging monoculars. The device is designed for outdoor professionals and hunters who need to identify targets across large areas and capture thermal imagery in variable weather conditions. TFB got the opportunity to do some pre-testing, so let’s take a closer look at what 1280x1024 thermal pixels look like on screen!
Core Specifications
The XT50 pairs a 1,280×1,024-pixel thermal sensor with a 12-micrometer pixel pitch and a system NETD rating below 20 millikelvin. The optical design includes an F50/1.0 lens, 2–16x magnification with digital zoom boost to 24x, and a 17.5-degree horizontal field of view. That’s over 30 meters of FOV at 100 meters, which is great for panning the surroundings. Pulsar states the monocular achieves a detection range of 2,300 meters for deer-sized targets under standard conditions.
The display is a full HD AMOLED panel at 1,920×1,080 pixels with electronic image stabilization. The device supports nine color palettes, manual/automatic/semi-automatic calibration modes, and a smoothing filter for enhanced thermal image quality at higher amplification levels.
Rangefinder and Recording
A built-in laser rangefinder operates to 1,200 meters with ±1-meter measurement accuracy, and works faster than ever. The XT50 includes 128GB of internal storage for photo and video recording and supports remote connectivity via the Stream Vision 2 mobile application over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
1280x1024 pixels HD Thermal Imaging
TFB managed to get really close to some animals of interest for buyers of thermal monoculars, so let’s enjoy the details in green hot, white hot and ultramarine. The new Telos XT50 has very sharp details and a nice depth in the image. Note that these images are taken by the author, and apart from some cropping and watermarking, there’s been no editing. 1280x feels like the new 640x.
Thermal and Mechanical Design
The XT50 is rated IPX7 for water resistance and operates across a temperature range of -25 to +50°C. The replaceable LPS7i lithium-ion battery provides 6,400 mAh capacity with an eight-hour runtime at 22°C. External power is supplied via USB Type-C with Power Delivery at 5V or 9V. With the power-saving options now available in the software, you can be out for very long periods of time.
The monocular weighs 730 grams with a battery installed, and measures 242×72×77 millimeters.
The device features an ergonomic rubber-coated body designed for secure grip in wet or cold conditions. You sometimes miss the location of a button, but overall this design works well. The focus and zoom are very similar to my Canon camera, which is a good thing.
Controls are grouped on the top for easy access. The focus and zoom rings are positioned near the front lens, consistent with the rest of the Telos product line. The LRF is now much smaller (and faster) and has a flat bottom. A small but important ergonomic upgrade, which also makes it much easier for those who use a tripod (like me) or other mount to hold it.
As a flagship product, the XT50 receives Pulsar's gold-accented finish treatment. The XT50 is built on Pulsar's upgradeable Telos platform, allowing users to access future hardware and firmware enhancements.
Manufacturing and Integration
Pulsar states that the XT50 (SKU 77524) integrates European components and is assembled to European manufacturing standards. The device supports integration with the Stream Vision Ballistics application for ballistics calculation and can receive firmware updates through the Stream Vision 2 app.
