Black Rain Ordnance brought their Freedom Fighter AK to SHOT Show 2026, marking the company's first production AK after shelving a prototype back in 2013. Built entirely in Neosho, Missouri, this isn't your typical import or parts-kit build. Black Rain went all-in on American manufacturing with a milled steel receiver and billet machined components throughout.
The Freedom Fighter runs 7.62x39 and uses a hammer-forged bolt and carrier paired with a 16-inch 4150V chromoly barrel finished in nitride. The barrel has a 1:10 twist and M14x1.0LH threads ready for whatever muzzle device you want to run. Black Rain designed this rifle specifically to handle suppressed fire without any modifications needed.
Where this AK gets interesting is the furniture and controls. The machined billet free-floating handguard gives you plenty of real estate for accessories, and there's a 7075 billet gas tube with an integrated Picatinny rail running along the top. The proprietary billet folding stock keeps things compact when you need it. For the trigger, you get a CMC AK 2.0 Elite in either single-stage flat or Yella Jacket Combat Curved configurations, both solid upgrades over standard AK triggers.
Black Rain spec'd a Rifle Dynamics front sight gas block that has an integrated Glock rear sight, which is an unusual but practical touch. The rifle ships with a Magpul Gen3 AK magazine, B5 Systems AK P-Grip, a BRO-Chinook silencer-ready adaptor, and a ribbed dust cover.
